Girlguiding Hertfordshire international fundraising - Uganda 2027

In 2018, 12 young members from Girlguiding Hertfordshire, led by 3 leaders from Radlett district, undertook a trip of a lifetime, travelling to Uganda to complete various service projects and to experience African culture including attending an international camp.

In 2027, we are set to repeat this exciting trip. 16 girls, supported by 2 of the original leaders (and 2 new additions), will work together over 2+ weeks to better the lives of the local communities and experience the local culture.

We will achieve this by educating young children in schools, completing a physical service project, which we think will be building an extension to house a school “kitchen” (the previous team built a long drop toilet unit at a school and funded a new classroom).

We also hope to continue our links with the Girl Guides of Uganda in their community shoe project and menstrual hygiene project.

We hope that by returning to Uganda with this new group, we will give the girls the opportunity to meet new people who are not as privileged as themselves, to give service, and to gain an understanding of development, giving us all an insight to the under developed world we do not necessarily always see and hear about.

Girls will be immersed in new cultures, meet personal challenges, experience a different lifestyle to their own for this period of time and essentially inspire young children from Africa, and then be able to share their experiences with others when they return home. It won’t all be hard work as the group will enjoy a 2-3 day safari experience before returning home.

The cost of the trip is £2,750 per person (including the trip leaders) and the team will be working hard over the coming months hoping for support through fundraising.

At county camp, in July, 1 of the team’s leaders sold teddies in camp blankets and festival friend craft kits to raise money for the project and we thank everyone who supported us by buying these at county camp.
