Girls Can Do Anything!

17th July 17

Hertfordshire Guides were inspired and motivated to speak out about key issues that they care about when Oliver Dowden CBE, member of Parliament (MP) for Hertsmere, came to visit them at Morven, Potters Bar as part of the Great Patrol Hunt competition. The Guides were delighted to welcome Oliver to their camp who spoke to them about his route to becoming an MP and the campaigns that he has been involved in. It was a tremendous opportunity to talk directly to a politician and to feel listened to. Oliver led a debating workshop that supported the girls on how to present a persuasive dialogue for

BP Adventure Winter Surprise

18th November 16

On Saturday 12th November 19 guides met at Northern Heights for the BP Adventure Winter Surprise. Most of the girls didn't know each other but soon got stuck in (literally!) making snowmen out of balloons, wool and lots and lots of glue (plus a few secret ingredients!). The laughter and friendship soon started and continued throughout the weekend as they embarked on some confectionary making, cake decorating (and eating - no one seemed too upset biting into Santa's face!) and candle work. After dinner (Christmas dinner of course) the girls made props for their own photo booth and then practiced

HertsAdventure18 Badge Competition

01/03/18

Badge Competition Thank you to all who entered the HertsAdventure18 design a badge competition. The judges had a tough choice to make and in the end decided to create the camp badge using a combination of entries. The main base for the design came from Mabel (age 8) from 1st Flamstead Brownies, to which some ideas from a few other entries were added to generate the final badge design. Congratulations to Mabel and well done to Niamh (12) from 8th Rickmansworth Guides and Imogen (15), Eleanor (15) and Katie (17) from Rickmansworth and Chorleywood Senior Section whose entries formed part of the final

Lifesaving defibrillator at the Hertfordshire Guide Centre

10/11/16

There is now a defibrillator at the Hertfordshire Guide Centre in Cottered which is all set up and ready for use should it be needed. These machines are designed to be used by anyone (suggest 16+). A course to use it is not necessary but can be helpful and your 1st Response Course or refresher should include defibrillators.  Leaders would be expected to follow usual procedure for a non breathing person: call ambulance, start CPR, then someone should get the defibrillator and open the lid for instructions to greatly improve chances of survival. We are still raising money to buy and fit a
