BP Adventure Winter Surprise

18th November 16

On Saturday 12th November 19 guides met at Northern Heights for the BP Adventure Winter Surprise. Most of the girls didn't know each other but soon got stuck in (literally!) making snowmen out of balloons, wool and lots and lots of glue (plus a few secret ingredients!). The laughter and friendship soon started and continued throughout the weekend as they embarked on some confectionary making, cake decorating (and eating - no one seemed too upset biting into Santa's face!) and candle work. After dinner (Christmas dinner of course) the girls made props for their own photo booth and then practiced

Lifesaving defibrillator at the Hertfordshire Guide Centre

10/11/16

There is now a defibrillator at the Hertfordshire Guide Centre in Cottered which is all set up and ready for use should it be needed. These machines are designed to be used by anyone (suggest 16+). A course to use it is not necessary but can be helpful and your 1st Response Course or refresher should include defibrillators.  Leaders would be expected to follow usual procedure for a non breathing person: call ambulance, start CPR, then someone should get the defibrillator and open the lid for instructions to greatly improve chances of survival. We are still raising money to buy and fit a

We are delighted to announce that the Hertfordshire Guide Centre at Cottered has been successful in securing funding from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme for a fabulous restoration of our pond. Thorley Senior Section

08/07/16

Congratulations to Rebecca K, Eleanor, Rebecca M, Darcey, Abigail, Sarah and Ella of Thorley Senior Section on gaining their Commonwealth Awards. Many of them are also Young Leaders, working with Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in Bishop’s Stortford. Camping plays a major role in this unit as the girls camped at Bentley Heath and Wellies & Wristbands, which they enjoyed so much they are going again this year.  For the award girls carried out their own individual research on their chosen country India, and whilst at Bentley Heath they brought it all together. Having completed this

A huge THANK YOU to Gill Park, Jo, Vikki and Andy Clinch, Jean Banks and Natalie and Dave Inder for their work at the County Guide Centre on Saturday 18th June.  Whilst ‘operation kitchen clean-up’ took place inside, Natalie and Dave tackled the playground and pathway areas. I don’t think the kitchen has ever looked or smelt so clean – it literally sparkled! Our next working party will be on 17th August when the focus will be on the outside so please bring your garden tools. Come and join us. Friends, cheese, wine, crafts, cup-cakes and chat – what better way is there to spend a

County Residential Weekend in your own words

26/05/16

Members attended the County Residential Weekend at High Leigh on 20-22 May 2016. Everyone was asked to sum the weekend up with one word – you can see the result here. 3 brand new Leaders from 7th Welwyn Garden City Guides had this to say: "Myself and the two other Leaders who run my Guide unit took over as brand new Leaders in September. We saw the High Leigh weekend advertised and thought it would be very beneficial to us. All three of us are brand new to guiding and found that the opportunity to bounce ideas off other Leaders, the training by the inspiring trainers, and being able to
