Hertfordshire Libraries My Story Families Project
Hertfordshire Libraries have launched a creative project in response to the current lockdown. They understand that sections are unable to meet in their usual way at the moment, but thought Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers would be interested in hearing about this project and how taking part could help work towards one or more of badge requirements.
Through My Story Families, Hertfordshire Libraries are inviting young people to ask an adult about their stories of growing up and share these stories with us. They will then post the stories on a dedicated My Story Families page on the Herts Memories website. The stories can be told in any way: a drawing or painting, a song, animation, collection of photographs, a poem or piece of writing. All they ask is that the stories are emailed by an adult to email@example.com. To find out more and see the sorts of stories we have received so far please visit https://www.hertsmemories.org.uk/content/category/herts-history/people/mystoryfamilies
Rainbows – My Story Families could help you learn more about your parents and grandparents and help you earn your Family Tree badge. Telling stories is fun! However you choose to tell your story, you could work towards your Drawing or Storyteller badge.
Brownies – Did your parents, grandparents and other relations grow up in Hertfordshire too? Was it very different or are things still the same? You could find out more about where you live which could count towards your Local History badge. If you share your story with us as a painting or a recording of a performance, My Story Families could help you on your way to your Painting or Performing badge.
Guides – As well as talking to an adult, do they have any photos they could share with you? You could put together a photographic story to help you earn your Photography badge. My Story Families is also a good project as it fits in with several of your staged badges: Communicate, Network and Reflect.
Rangers – If it’s possible for you to talk to several of your older relations and find out more about generations of your family, My Story Families could help you to satisfy some of the requirements for your Genealogy badge. There are a whole range of ways to tell your family’s story so you could choose a format suited to your Animation or Blogging badge requirements.
