Brownies

Who are Brownies?
Brownies are usually aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the unit until they are a little bit older. Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise.

What do Brownies Do?
Brownies have fun! They take part in indoor and outdoor activities that challenge them to do their best. Their meetings are action-packed and full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that the Brownies have suggested themselves. Everything a Brownie does is an adventure - it's a world of excitement, new interests and friends.

Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.

Brownies meet regularly, usually once a week during school terms. There are often opportunities for Brownies to take part in special activities and events throughout the year. Many Brownie Packs go away on holiday, to camp or on an overnight sleepover.

What do Brownies Wear?
Each Brownie chooses what she wants to wear from a range of items - it is up to each girl to decide which items she likes. This choice allows Brownies to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the Pack. Click HERE to see examples.

When Do Brownies meet?
The day and length of meeting varies depending on where you live in Hertfordshire. Contact County Office for details of your nearest meeting.

Brownies meet together in groups called packs. Each pack has about twenty four girls and they meet once a week, often in the same place as the local Rainbows or Guides. Most of the meetings take place during term time and last about an hour and a half.
