The September Herts Guides Walking Team social walk takes place in the Cornmill Meadows, including Waltham Abbey and its gardens. Approx 5km.
Extensive views are afforded over Waltham Abbey towards London and across Hertfordshire. The walk follows the Old River Lee through the historic Cornmill Meadows, which are a mosaic of hay meadows, rivers, ditches and pools with a variety of wildlife. We will pop into Wake Hide to check out the birdlife then go on to Abbey Gardens & Waltham Abbey. The return journey includes woodland paths alongside Cornmill Stream.
Start time: 10.00am with estimated finish around 12.30pm
Optional lunch: Lee Valley Park Farm Café, Stubbins Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey, EN9 2EF. Hot & cold food. No need to book.
Who?: Girlguiding members and friends over 18
Bring: A drink, snack, waterproofs, binoculars for the views & birds
Wear: Non uniform, comfortable clothes Walking boots, or trainers sufficient if dry
Type of walk: Easy lowland walk, mostly flat, no stiles, but small hill at the beginning to the trig point. Paths may be muddy if wet.
